Enjoy refreshing beverages as you view MUSEUM AS MEDIUM by Elizabeth Lui at the PDC Design Gallery. Engage in artist walk- throughs on the hour and a book signing. Twenty-five years following the publication of CLOSED MONDAYS, (Nazraeli Press, 1998) the artist revisits the museum as subject matter. The exhibit showcases the architectural aesthetic of 20th and 21st century world museums. Signature styles of leading architects are reflected in their iconic museum designs. Shot between 1989 and 2023, the work arcs the coming of age of the museum as an architectural destination. MUSEUM AS MEDIUM will be on view until July 22, 2023.
View our Blue Lobby installation of sculptures by Tyler Burton, ”FOSSILS OF THE FUTURE". The artist creates sculptures and installations made of cast porcelain, concrete and clay to explore environmental issues such as plastic, shelter, glacial melt and wildlife habitats.
In Burton's Fossils of the Future series, she explores our dependence on single use plastics through large layered monioliths and miniliths, as well as castings of plastic products. Burton is particularly inspired by the solitude and quiet of the desert and both simple and found materials that has led her from individual journey to social commentary to include the Salton Sea and California’s water issues.
